The Canine Stars Stunt Dog Show is an exciting extreme sports production for family entertainment – highlighting popular dog sports such as freestyle frisbee disc, flyball racing, high jumping, and dog agility with multiple breeds of dogs and mixes who have been rescued or adopted from shelters.
This talented, fur and fun-filled cast will appear Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Secretariat Celebration at The Virginia Horse Festival
Secretariat activities will include daily visits with Groundshaker, the great-great granddaughter of Secretariat, along with her buddy, Mia the mini; an extensive selection of official Secretariat merchandise for purchase in the Farm Bureau Center, along with autograph signings by Kate Chenery Tweedy and Leeanne Meadows Ladin, co-authors of the award-winning book ‘Secretariat’s Meadow – The Land, The Family, The Legend.”
Admission to the Virginia Horse Festival is required. Additional ticketed activities are narrated tram tours of the historic barns and narrated tours of Meadow Hall showcasing the Meadow Champion Galleries, Triple Crown Room and the Chenery Collection of rare Meadow Stable memorabilia.
Derby Day Party
What better place to celebrate the “run for the roses” than the birthplace of Secretariat, Virginia’s own Triple Crown legend! This year our Derby Day Party celebrates the two great Derby champions of Meadow Stable – Secretariat (1973) and the unsung hero Riva Ridge (1972.) Kate Chenery Tweedy, daughter of Penny Chenery, will host the festivities.
Guests will enjoy meet and greet with Kate Chenery Tweedy; narrated tours of Meadow Hall showcasing the Meadow Champion Galleries, Triple Crown Room and the exclusive Chenery Collection; Meadow mint julep tram tours around the historic barns; visits with Groundshaker, our Secretariat great-great granddaughter and her sidekick, Mia the Mini; our “Run for the Roses” reception featuring Derby fare with a Virginia flair; live music on the veranda; Secretariat and Riva Ridge race videos; Derby Hat contest; large screen TVs to watch the Derby; and much more. Hokie Horse Education Station
The Hokie Horse Education Station will be returning for all three days. Be sure to stop by to participate in free activities beginning at 11 am each day. FULL ACTIVITY SCHEDULE
Visit with a pony inside the Farm Bureau Center to pet and learn about basic care and grooming.
Every day join children’s author, Susan Williamson, for story time in the classroom at 1 pm.
NEW-Derby Dash 5K
Join us for a Derby Dash 5k and One mile walk/run and enjoy a day of the 2019 Virginia Horse Festival. Advance registrations qualify for a t-shirt and a ticket to the event, and are available through April 20, 2019! Race start time is 9 a.m. and this is a non-timed event. In the spirit of the day, first place winners in each category receive a dozen roses! Medals will be provided to 1, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The route will wind through the beautiful and historical Meadow Event Park property. Net proceeds will go to support the rebuilding of the recently burned down Beaverdam Equestrian Center and the newly announced Secretariat Heritage Center.
